WELCOME TO MAJICMOON Hello and welcome to my website, my name is Jacqueline and I am an artist and craftsperson and here is my story. I was born into a very eclectic family the youngest of five children, I have three brothers and one sister, my mother who was a remarkable lady came from romany and well to do roots and my father an honest forthright man came from a large family with interesting descendants one being Thomas Tew the pirate. As a child I spent a lot of time alone as my siblings were either at school or work and my mother was rushed off her feet cooking ,cleaning and caring for us all. So as a result I developed a hugely vivid imagination playing by myself for hours and drawing and dreaming of far off lands, I loved fairytales especially the brothers grimm . So most of what I paint comes from my imagination and I get very absorbed when I am working on a picture and almost feel as though I am there in the painting. Vivid colour and a dream like quality are two of the main features of my work I also like vintage themes and romantic or theatrical looks to things. I studied at nene college Northampton for four years were I did fashion design and illustration as costume fascinated me but it was definitely the more theatrical side of fashion I enjoyed and certainly the illustration. I completed my courses and gained my qualifications with distinctions a hand painted leather outfit I made in my final year was actually stolen at a fashion show at the hippodrome in London I often wonder were it ended up. After I left college I felt a bit lost for a while I was not entirely sure that I wanted to work in any commercial setting with fashion as it would have felt soul destroying. I wound up working in the soft furnishing trade for a while working on prototypes ,I also designed stage costume and tour merchandise for a couple of bands which was a worthwhile experience. My life changed course for a while with relationships and the birth of my daughter Holly ,so art went on the backburner for a while I worked making and designing fancy dress costumes for a friends business during this period which was good fun. Then a series of tragedies ,illness, failed relationships and the loss of my dear mother to cancer which broke my heart but also made me realise that life is precious and you should follow your dreams. So now here I am back where I started with a vivid imagination which I am putting into my artwork for you to enjoy ,as well as painting and illustration work I make objet d,art for the home and for gifts ,such as vases, mirrors, boxes, cushions and much more. .Because I have a background in art and textiles I like to work with lots of different mediums which includes rag rug work made into mirrors, wall hangings, cushions and of course rugs and art blinds which will appear on this site soon as well as a varying mix of artwork which can be purchased as prints or original work There are several of my original works hanging on the walls in The Madhatters Cafe in Launceston Cornwall, a place well worth visiting for fabulous homemade food and an interesting variety of teas, you can link to the cafe`s website at the bottom of this page for directions and to see the menu.
